Fritz Chess 8
Chess is one of the oldest games of skill known to man. First played centuries ago in China, India and Persia it has stood the test of time and remains today as one of the most popular leisure pursuits in the world. Excalibur Publishing are proud to bring you FRITZ CHESS 8, from ChessBase. Read on to find out what makes Fritz so special and the minimum PC spec requirements.

About Fritz
Fritz Chess 8, written by Frans Morsch, is identical to the one that fascinated the world in the man vs Machine duel against the human world champion. Millions of chess fans watched the games live on the Internet - the match ended in a 4:4 tie. "Deep Fritz is stronger than Deep Blue," said world champion Vladimir Kramnik, who had carefully studied the program. But don't be afraid, Fritz is not just a chess playing monster. It is a friendly chess partner for beginners and amateurs. It will teach you to play chess from scratch, and can automatically adjust its playing strength to suit your needs. It will warn you when you go wrong in a game, giving you hints on how to play better.

Fritz is very much part of Chess history - here's a few of it's highlights...

In 1992 Fritz 2 played world champion Kasparov in a 5 minute game match. Although Kasparov won Fritz did manage 4 wins - the first time a program defeated a world champion at speed chess.
In May 1995 Fritz won the 8th World Computer Chess Championships.
In April 1999 it was transported to the space station Mir to entertain the cosmonauts who were spending many months in orbit.
In July 2002 Fritz went head to head against the world champion. Final score of the match was Kramnik 4, Deep Fritz 4.
In November 2003 the world watched the legendary Garry Kasparov tie 2-2 against a special version of Fritz called X3dFritz. The game was played in 3-D using total virtual reality!
